Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to install ground support
   • Access, interpret and apply installation of ground support documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
   • Select, and check for faults, equipment/tools for the activity
   • Arrange for delivery of ground support materials to site
   • Inspect and assess site conditions and determine if scaling is required and take action
   • Conduct equipment pre-start checks and start up procedures
   • Identify, address and report environmental issues, potential risks and hazards
   • Inspect and assess appropriateness of ground control mechanism/plan to ensure safety of site
   • Use approved dust suppression and extraction equipment/methods
2. Install ground support
   • Assemble and install reinforcement components according to ground control plan
   • Install reinforcement components with appropriate fixative
   • Install reinforcement components following contour of ground and according to ground conditions
   • Tension external reinforcement components according to ground control conditions
3. Conduct housekeeping activities
   • Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials
   • Clean and maintain condition of equipment, ensure suitability for use, and address/report issues
   • Manage and/or report hazards, and maintain a safe working environment
   • . Process and maintain written records

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of ground support installation including:

using appropriate dust suppression and extraction methods

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the installation of ground support that meets all of the required outcomes including:

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions, and convey work progress

demonstrates completion of ground support installation that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

conducting equipment pre-start checks and start up procedures

assembling and installing reinforcement components appropriately

conducting housekeeping activities
